            Overview

The Capstone Seminar (IRP 706) is a one-credit course to be offered during the Maymester, providing professional training to you before you embark on your summer internship.  The object of the seminar is to give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in a professional (albeit simulated) setting.

The 2008 IR Capstone is a simulation of the negotiations on climate change that will be held in Poznan, Poland.

It is December 2008 and this industrial city of 600,000 is hosting the 14th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-14).  COP14 is the mid-point of what the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC Secretariat, Yves de Boer, has called the most complex negotiations in history.   The Conference of Parties has opened, with the usual formal speeches (the UN Secretary-General, the President of Poland, other luminaries, Bono and the like) and is now moving into the detailed negotiations, mostly conducted by professional multilateral diplomats...

In the  2008 Maymester IRP 706 is a required core course for the Maxwell MA-IR Program.

Please note that the first meeting will take place on 9 May at 9:00 AM in Eggers 010.

This is a fictitious simulation exercise that has been developed for educational purposes.
