The Geographic Information and Analysis Laboratory

The Geographic Information and Analysis (GIA) laboratory of the Department of Geography, Syracuse University, supports research and teaching in the various fields of spatial information and analysis (e.g., geographic information systems, computer cartography, and spatial statistics). The recently (2003) updated 13-seat Windows XP based facility supports major cartographic, geographic information system (GIS), and statistical software. Printing, digitizing, and scanning equipment enable ready input and output of spatial information. The lab is accessible to authorized users 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, and is located in Eggers 014.

The lab serves as a laboratory classroom for instruction for both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Cartographic Design, Principles of Geographic Information Systems, Quantitative Geographical Analysis, Multimedia Cartography, Environmental Geographic Information Science, Environmental Monitoring, and Spatial Statistics.  Geography faculty and graduate students may use the GIA facility for research purposes. Lab access is also granted to undergraduate Geography majors who have taken any of the techniques courses (e.g. GEO 381, 383, 386) and who require access to the lab for further related project/thesis work.

If there is a problem with any of the computers in the lab, please fill out an error report.
