A Simulation of Complex Negotiations
Description of the Game
SIIRAN has a wealth of oil deposits that are currently being developed by two international oil companies, Wilson Petroleum and Advantic Petrochemical. SIIRAN has just had a change of government at the same time the oil leases for the two companies are up for renewal. The new government has two parties. The majority party generally supports a continuation of the oil leases with the international companies, while the opposition party supports a radical proposal to nationalize the oil industry.The two companies are similar in structure, although the costs of their operations vary. Each faces the difficult problem of negotiating the new leases while having to deal with the internal politics of the corporate structure. The CEO of each company makes the decisions for the company, and a financial officer is charged with protecting the interests of the shareholders, who are only interested in increased profits. A labor union representative must protect the interests of the workers, who are only interested in higher wages.
